Founder and principal engineer: Erwin O’Toole
Erwin qualified as a civil engineer from the National University of Ireland, Galway, in 2002. He moved to San Francisco in 2007 with an eagerness to understand this city of structures placed on precarious hills, shifting sands and expansive clays. He obtained his California Professional Engineering License in 2012.
Erwin has participated in numerous peer reviews of concrete, steel, timber, and masonry structural designs, with respect to excavation shoring systems, for the City and County of San Francisco. He is particularly familiar with the slope-heightened reviews conducted in Structural Advisory Committee meetings for properties that exceed an average slope of 4 horizontal to 1 vertical grade.
Erwin’s portfolio features complex and challenging projects spanning a broad range of market sectors in the Bay Area. The scope of his interests includes new design and construction 4D analysis. He has particular expertise in demolition and support of existing buildings, as well as excavation shoring, construction, means & methods value engineering, dewatering, and construction phase project support.
